A BRAND NEW SCI-FI MONSTER MOVIE STARRING DEBBIE ROCHON!

lumberVsJack.Poster

Space Monsters magazine has teamed up with the brand new low-budget monster movie Lumber Vs Jack to bring you this extra special promotional offer! Starring one of Space Monsters‘ favourite US scream queens, Debbie Rochon, this homage to the classic monster movies of yesteryear is a real treat for vintage movie fans! Here are some words from the Lumber Vs Jack producers about the film –

“Lumber vs Jack is more than a sci-fi horror.  It’s a movie inspired by our times.  With more and more of our plant life being genetically manipulated by big corporations for profit the dangers to people and life on the planet in general, is growing. Our story takes this battle of man vs man made nature and gives it substance…

Using campy special F/X and some comedic moments to keep the mood light will make the story play like the satire it is.  When Jack squares off against the terrible tree man and finally finds the center of the genetically modified forest, he and his band of eco warriors will come face to face with the monsters we all fight every time we go shopping for groceries.  Sort of.”

“LUMBER VS JACK” – SYNOPSIS

Jack Woods is a simple man who finds himself in an extraordinary situation when he must rescue his estrange wife, Jill, from Genetically Modified killer trees. Jack soon finds himself the leader of a rag tag group of heroes out to save the world from the wildly spreading vegetation!

“Space Monsters is outstanding. It brings original and useful information to enthusiasts of the genre (not just second hand information scraped off the internet). It is beautifully illustrated (frequently with original art), and the layout and sub-editing (the usual pitfalls for fanzines) are meticulous. Space Monsters gives the reader the best of both worlds, the production values of publications available on the high street, with the depth and enthusiasm that can only be provided by publications run by true fans.” – Chris Lewis

“I cannot recommend this highly enough.” – Amazon customer

“Space Monsters carries on the wonderful memorial work of well-known works like Dennis Gifford’s Pictorial History of Monster Movies or Alan Frank’s Horror Movies. Even the immortal Famous Monsters of Filmland didn’t have the inside dope – Space Monsters does!” – Jon Shipton

A GIANT MONSTER MADE OF SMOG AND POLLUTION? HOLY CRAP!

godzilla vs smogmonster remix

Godzilla vs Hedorah ’s strength is that it doesn’t (wait for it…) recycle many ideas from previous movies, no aliens disguised as humans trying to invade earth, via Tokyo, for example. Visually Godzilla vs Hedorah stands out too. With lots of imaginative WTF moments, some finely crafted montages and visual trickery, it’s easily the most energetic and playful entry in the series. It contains a powerful message and, for a family movie, challenging imagery. It has both a point to make and manages to make it whilst staying true to its adventure-driven roots. That’s an accomplishment worth celebrating.

Yoshimitsu Banno wanted to do a movie about pollution, more specifically about a pollution monster. Unsurprisingly then, Hedorah is a play on the Japanese word for sludge or slime, hedoro. By the 1970’s Japan’s industrial practises were (like much of the cast) in full swing, waste and pollution the by-product of post-war economic development. The ‘save the earth’ theme music, written by Banno himself, was directly inspired by the influential American writer and marine biologist, Rachel Carson and her bestseller, Silent Spring, that documented the effects of pesticides on the environment. Hedorah represented not just a Japanese issue then but an international one. And the poor response Godzilla vs Hedorah received is also ironic given that Banno’s film has more in common with Tanaka and director Ishiro Honda’s 1954 original, Godzilla, with its overt political / environmental commentary, than any of the subsequent films….
