Movie review – ALIEN (1979) by Geetha Stachowiak

British director Ridley Scott’s landmark 1979 sci-fi thriller Alien is about seven charmers stuck on a mining ship out in deep space with a creature that they unknowingly pick up while futzing around on some planetoid. So it’s your typical “monster in the house” formula, but the sets are so creepy, the soundtrack so disturbing, and the creature so evil, it’s heart-warming. Artist H. R. Giger apparently delved really deep somewhere in his brain and what he came up with is a cutie you’re not gonna forget. As for the hatchlings, you’ll love the Chestburster—YouTube has some adorable clips.

Not to be outdone by these delightful contenders is the android toting the company’s agenda. The crew ends up as lunch—all except for Sigourney Weaver, who made her mark on geeks everywhere with the panty scene… just kidding. It was her kickass leadership skills (the panties weren’t bad either). Her return to civilization in the escape pod spawned sequels that well… tried pretty hard. So check it out. I think you’ll see why folks willingly kiss Sir Scott’s knighted ass even though he’s A Bitch to Work for. Hey, awesomeness comes at a price. Just try asking Michael Bay to make a movie without CGI.

CAROLINE MUNRO…NOBODY DOES IT BETTER!

collage 2015 C

As we continue to celebrate the life and work of Caroline Munro this week here at Space Monsters magazine, we thought we’d take a moment to acknowledge how hard Caroline works even when she’s not making movies and television shows, being interviewed or writing magazine columns. Munro is one of the most sought after guests for film events and horror conventions due to her back catalogue of Lamb’s Navy Rum ads and Hammer horror films as well as being a James Bond girl, sci-fi heroine and long-standing scream queen and 2015 has been one of her busiest years ever!

Caroline’s next convention appearances are at the ODP Celebrity Autograph Convention in Blackpool on the 24th October and a week later she is a Special Guest at WynterCon in Eastbourne – the South Coast’s biggest and best fantasy, sci-fi and horror convention. As well as signing publicity stills, Munro will also be selling autographed copies of her very own magazine The Official Caroline Munro Magazine which folds out into a huge poster! These can also be ordered from Amazon.co.uk at a special discounted price for this week only!

ALL THIS WEEK WE CELEBRATE “SPACE MONSTERS” AND HORROR MOVIE LEGEND CAROLINE MUNRO!

golden voyage carolinemunro andylambert art

Often referred to as Britain’s “First Lady of Fantasy”, Caroline Munro started her career as a model in the sixties and took roles in numerous British horror movies leading to a long and varied career in the film industry. Munro was a Bond girl in The Spy Who Loved Me, starred in her own sci-fi vehicle Starcrash and was cast as the female lead in notorious 80’s slasher flick Maniac. Never one to rest on her laurels, Caroline now has her own column in Space Monsters magazine, is working on several movie, television and book projects and continues to be a hugely popular guest at film conventions around the world.

Here at Space Monsters magazine we decided it was about time to not only celebrate Caroline’s illustrious past but to bring her back into the public consciousness by looking at what she is doing now as well as Munro’s plans for the future.

So today we launch CAROLINE MUNRO WEEK where we will be sharing news, comments, features, exclusive pics and a few words from the lady herself! If you are on Twitter start sharing our posts and your own memories and pictures of Caroline using the hashtag #CelebrateCarolineMunro.

To start our celebrations we are offering the Official Caroline Munro Poster Magazine at a bargain sale price of only £6.95 over on Amazon.co.uk – and remember, we ship worldwide – that includes the USA, Japan, Europe, Australia, Canada, Australia and the UK! This very special, limited edition publication is an exclusive magazine put together by Caroline, Space Monsters editor Cyberschizoid and publishing legend Dez Skinn which folds out into a giant poster almost 2 feet by 3 feet. Features and articles include an extensive filmography (the most up-to-date ever!), a personal message from Caroline Munro, a brand new interview, gorgeous photographs (many from Caroline’s private collection) and more!
