WONDER WOMAN – PROTECTING THE WORLD FROM SPACE MONSTERS AND SUPER VILLAINS FOR OVER SEVENTY YEARS!

wonderwoman SM6

With the recent announcement of a full-length Wonder Woman movie as well as the character’s upcoming appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) I got thinking about when I first became aware of the world’s most iconic female superhero. Like many other Space Monsters readers my interest in Wonder Woman really took hold once the BBC began screening the popular TV series starring Lynda Carter back in the seventies – an adaptation which proved so popular that it is still being shown today, currently on the Horror Channel in the UK. I then began collecting the DC comic book and discovered that Wonder Woman’s initial appearance was in All Star Comics #8 way back in 1941!

Controversially, the first images of the new Wonder Woman (to be played by Gal Gadot) show her in a rather drab costume looking more like TV’s Xena Warrior Princess than the Amazonian superhero we’ve come to know and love. Gone are the iconic red, white and blue colours only to be replaced by a dull and generic-looking leather outfit. When asked her opinion of the new costume original Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter said:

“Well, I was missing the red, white and blue, I have to say… I don’t know. I haven’t seen it yet, so I really can’t comment. Maybe there’s a lot more color in it than what we saw in the picture.”

I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see but in the meantime Space Monsters magazine is working on coverage of the original television series as well as the TV movie from 1974 starring Cathy Lee Crosby.

Don’t forget, if you want to catch up on your Space Monsters magazine back-issues as well as Monster Mag and the Caroline Munro Official Magazine at bargain prices then take advantage of our OUT OF THIS WORLD JANUARY SALE while stocks last!
